Types Of Ceremonies

Civil Weddings

Civil ceremonies can only take place in a Town Hall or a property approved by the local Italian authorities. The ceremony is conducted in Italian and then translated to you in English by an interpreter. The ceremony lasts about 20 to 30 minutes and you can personalize it with some music or some readings.

Catholic Weddings

Catholic Weddings can only be performed in a Catholic church and are conducted in English. It is possible to have a Catholic ceremony even if only one of you is a Catholic. The documents and pre-cana classes required to have the ceremony in Italy are the same all over the world. You will need to obtain the NIHIL OBSTAT from your local priest, signed by your bishop to be married in an Italian parish. Catholic Weddings can only be processed 6 months before the wedding day, so you have plenty of time to obtain these documents. If you have been previously married in a Catholic church and have not received a formal annulment you cannot have a Catholic wedding.

Protestant Weddings

Protestant weddings can take place in a church or in an outside setting such as villas, castles, hotels, seaside, where the Pastor comes out to you. Our pastors can travel to your location and celebrate your wedding or you can select from various beautiful Protestant churches or chapels. Requirements for a Protestant marriage are very simple and we will inform you of the requirements on request.

Italy does not recognise same sex weddings and legal partnerships are currently not yet legally recognised. However it is possible for the couple to be married in the UK and extend the ceremony to Italy. We offer complete wedding packages for Gay & Lesbian couples, from Humanistic Ceremonies, to Civil style unions, as well as traditional Christian Holy weddings performed by an official minister. Italian Weddings will be delighted to make your ceremony a truly memorable occasion.
